What does every girl want on her birthday? To get dressed up in a beautiful dress, for that killer Insta pic, obvs, and eat a fat cake without feeling guilty about her love handles. HELL YES. Spending my birthday in Barcelona I.was.READY. You know how in the last post I was talking about the plan, well, not going to plan. That’s what happened in Barcelona… again. But 10 times worse. Instead of indulging into a cheesecake we got locked inside a restaurant as the horrible events of the Barcelona terror attacks unfolded outside. When the plan does go flying out the window, 9/10 times it is so.damn.FRUSTRATING. But spending my birthday locked inside our hotel (they wouldn’t let us out), and starving (they had no food and everything was shut), I actually felt incredibly luckily. As my heart bled for those who lost their lives and those injured in the awful attacks, I was sat inside a hotel, healthy and safe. Even if the plan, and in this case, the world is falling apart around you, the fact is you could still be in a better situation than others. And that was my birthday blessing…

After lives being lost and families being torn apart, no matter what terror is drawn upon us, we believe in love over hate ALWAYS and no terrorist is ever going to win. In true indomitable spirit, the city of Barcelona rose up the next day and started back up as normal. And so did I.

Despite the terrible start we visited the Montjuic castle, the outstanding Sagrada Familia, the genius work of Gaudi at Park Guell, and took a trip to Monserrat…

FYI: If you’re wanting that #travelgoals Insta pic at the top of the ‘staircase to heaven’ monument, like @doyoutravel, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s not gonna happen. It’s fenced off. Tragic… I know.

To finish off the trip we sat at Bunkers Del Carmel, sipping some cheap beer (we were broke at this point), with incredible views over the beautiful city.

Barcelona, you got angels now.
